How it Works

Down Burst seeders utilize a patent pending drop tube to provide even seed distribution along the width of the machine.  High velocity air created by a marine-grade blower mixes with the seed as it's dropped from the meter and carries it down the length of the tube.  Closely spaced holes along the bottom of the tube allow the seed to drop out and fall to the ground.  This technology allows for the use of a single seed meter and a central seed hopper keeping the machine compact and lightweight.  The drop tube is positioned close to the ground to avoid wind drift and ensure the seed is placed exactly where you want it.

The Down Burst seed meter is an improved version of the fluted roller meters used in grain drills.  This patent pending design is specifically engineered to provide precise and consistent seed rates with the smallest seeds.  You can expect less than 5% seed rate error without calibrating the meter, and less than 1% error after calibration.   The seed meter is easy to adjust by simply turning a spring-loaded calibration nut by hand.  A stainless-steel meter gage is used to quickly set the meter for the species and seed rate you are planting. Further calibration can be completed in minutes and does not require tape measures, stopwatches or excessive math like many other seeders do.  The DS860 model now includes a large seed meter which allows planting large seeds and mixes up to 60lb/acre.  Swapping between large and small meters requires no tools and can be done in seconds.

Planting with a Down Burst Seeder is very simple.  A single remote toggle switch controls an industrial grade high-speed actuator to lift and lower the machine.  Simply flip the toggle switch to “Seed” to lower the machine onto the ground wheel.  Any rotation of the ground wheel, forward or reverse will now spread seed at the set rate regardless of planting speed.  The actuator linkage allows the machine to float in this position to keep the wheel in contact with the ground over uneven or rough terrain.  When you want to stop seeding, simply flip the toggle switch to “Lift” to raise the machine and lock the ground wheel from turning.
